Alicia Menendez is a Writer, MSNBC Anchor, and Advocate for Women in the Workplace. She is the author of “The Likeability Trap: How To Break Free and Succeed As You Are”.

Alicia shares a Why Not Now? moment that effected every aspect of her life, career, and those she was working with. She explains the questions she asked herself, and the process she applied, to see if the “risk” was worth it to potentially put her career in jeopardy, which led her to drill down on what she actually wanted out of her next career move.

She discusses losing and gaining momentum and being open to putting a few opportunities, and side gigs, together to lay a foundation for your next move.

Alicia has been described as “unflusterable”. She talks through her methodology when she starts to feel flustered, and how you can use her tools in your own day.

Alicia gives an overview of her book “The Likeability Trap” and how we look at “likability” in today’s society, specifically when it comes to women in the workplace.

You’ll learn why there’s a call for authentic leadership in the workplace, and how we can do better as a culture to reckon with the idea of likability as a cover for bias.

You’ll learn how you can create meaningful feedback and evaluations that take a 360-degree approach to incorporate opinions of many, versus the opinion of one, and how you can ask better questions when receiving feedback.

Alicia also shares her thoughts on branding, and why you don’t have to be all things to all people to be a brand, as long as you are authentic to yourself and are known for what you want to be known for.
