A few years ago, I started a simple daily habit to fall in love with my life 1% more each day – a small mindset shift that changed everything.
I made a note in my phone and added one thing each day that brought joy, meaning, or even just made me smile. There were no rules. Some things I made happen. Some I simply noticed. Big or small, all that mattered was the noticing. I started calling it the “1% Life Experiment.” Just one small win or moment of gratitude each day.
At first, it felt like a fun, innocent experiment. But it ended up changing how I move through life – and science explains why.
Research shows that perceived progress and a sense of control are two key ingredients of happiness. Watching my list grow gave me both. It wasn’t something happening to me from the outside; I was choosing to fall more in love with my life. That daily intention helped me rewire my mindset in real time.
Over time, I started feeling gratitude in the moment instead of waiting until the end of the day to reflect. And something shifted. I began seeking, creating, and recognizing things to be grateful for as they were happening. The physiological benefits of gratitude became on-demand, and honestly, they’re everywhere when you start looking.
Most people misdiagnose what will make them happy. We set big goals and intentions, but how often are they aligned with how we want to feel moment-to-moment?
We don’t need more to-dos. We’re already at capacity. And we’re already enough.
If you’re looking for a way to feel more connected, grateful, and aligned in your everyday life, the Renegade Accelerator can help guide you. Enrollment is open.
Cheers to the compounding effect. It’s real.
